Nearly a decade after his mother's death, Kanye West has a family of his own but is keeping her memory alive.

On what would have been Donda West's 67th birthday Tuesday, Kanye shared a throwback photo on Twitter.

The rapper, whose mother died post-cosmetic surgery, claimed daughter North West asked to see Donda in heaven for her birthday.

Kanye has penned several songs for his mother, former chairwoman of the English department at Chicago State University.

“Hey Mama” was released on Kanye's album Late Registration, prior to Donda's death in November 2007, and “Only One,” released in 2014, featured former Beatles frontman, Paul McCartney.

Last June, Kanye spoke to Q magazine and admitted he harbored guilt over his mother's death.

He told the publication,

If I had never moved to LA she'd be alive… I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears.

Following the success of Kanye's recent release The Life of Pablo, and the addition of baby Saint to his family with Kim Kardashian West, Donda would likely be seriously proud of her son.
