In her first interview since giving birth three months ago, Keira Knightley talks body image, turning 30 and what it's like being a parent.
Oh, yeah, and she's finally revealed her daughter's name: Edie.
Knightley, who appears on the cover of ELLE magazine's September issue, welcomed the baby girl (with husband James Righton) back in May, but she has stayed mum on all things motherhood -- until now.
Motherhood, she tells the magazine, gave her a newfound appreciation for her body.
You go through those periods where you look in the mirror and you think, 'Oh, if I only had different legs or arms or whatever.' You go through pregnancy and labor and then feeding the kid, and you go, 'Wow, my body is totally amazing, and I'm never going to not like it again, because it did this, and this is f*cking extraordinary.'
Part of that confidence, Knightley admits, can be attributed to her age. She turned 30 earlier this year, which came with an improved understanding of herself.
[In your 20s,] as a person, you're changing so much and you're trying to figure stuff out... It took me a lot of years to try and stop pleasing people and allow myself to have fun. It's the difficult thing of getting out of your own head. To stop going, 'Oh, there's something I should be doing, there's a way I should be behaving, I should be dressing…' All of those shoulds, you can drown in them.
Damn. Tell us how you really feel, Keira.
Just kidding! I love this new ballsy side of Knightley; motherhood definitely suits her well.
