Warning: This post contains major spoilers for the Season 1 finale of 'The Handmaid's Tale,' and possibly spoilers for Season 2.
Assuming you've watched the Season 1 finale of The Handmaid's Tale, you know things end on a pretty ambiguous note.
But there's good news for fans — there's definitely going to be a second season. Hulu renewed the show back in May, just a week after its debut.
So what's going to happen to our girls in Season 2?
If you've read Margaret Atwood's classic 1985 novel, you know showrunner Bruce Miller will be off-roading it from now on. (Although Atwood will be involved in creating the second season.)
Season 1 ends on a similar note as the book: Offred being taken away by men dressed as Eyes in a van, unsure if they are taking her to be punished or to join the resistance.
But the biggest change from the novel — and here comes the big spoiler — is Offred is pregnant.
We don't know anything for sure yet, but with a few hints from this season and the show creators, we can piece together a rough of idea of what to expect in Season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale.
1. It's going to take place in Gilead.
This might seem obvious, but after Offred is taken away in the book, we flash forward to a metafictional epilog where scholars are studying Offred's tale after the Republic of Gilead has fallen.
Hulu's SVP Craig Erwich and others have confirmed that Season 2 will take place in Gilead, so this will not be the case.
2. It's going to focus on rebellion.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show runner Bruce Miller said,
Alright, let's get rebellious!
3. Moira is going to become a bigger part of the show.
Praise be, b*tch: Finally a role for Samira Wiley where she thrives instead of dies.
Now that Moira has escaped to Canada and met up with Luke, we can assume the two will team up to help rescue June from Gilead.
According to a report from Vanity Fair, Miller has said Moira will play a "vital role" in Season 2.
4. It's going to be a lot darker.
Just because Moira made it to Canada doesn't mean you should get all hopeful about a slightly happier second season.
According to Elisabeth Moss in her interview with The Pool, things are actually going to get worse.
5. We'll learn about Offred's mother.
In the novel, Offred has memories of her mother as an activist who fought the impending Gilead regime.
There's been no mention of her in the show yet, but Miller told The Hollywood Reporter that will change in Season 2.
6. Alexis Bledel will be back.
After her joyride in Episode 5, Alexis Bledel was hauled away by Eyes and vanished from the show.
Whether in flashback or present day form, we don't know, but Alexis Bledel told Entertainment Weekly she will be in Season 2.
7. The Waterfords will still be a big part of the show.
Even though Offred left the Waterfords at the end of Season 1, Miller told Vanity Fair both Fred (Joseph Fiennes) and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski) have "fascinating arcs" in Season 2.
My prediction? Serena defies Fred, sees the light, and joins the rebellion.
