'Jurassic World' Sets Box Office Record With $524M In First Weekend

by Adam Pliskin
Universal Pictures

"Jurassic World" had a monster opening weekend.

The fourth installment in the franchise raked in $524.1 million worldwide this past weekend.

This is the first time a movie has ever made more than $500 million in a given weekend.

"Jurassic World" also had the highest grossing opening weekend in US history.

It made $208.8 million on the home front, beating "The Avengers" and its $207.4 million opening weekend in 2012.

The film also made $100 million in China.

We'll see if these numbers hold up next weekend, but this blockbuster could cross the billion dollar mark quite easily when it's all said and done.
