This 'Defenders' Theory About Alexandra And Iron Fist Will Blow Your Mind
The first season of Marvel's The Defenders premiered on Netflix today, and what's a Marvel series without a few crazy fan theories? The latest one has to do with Sigourney Weaver's character, Alexandra Reid, and everyone's least favorite Defender, Danny Rand (AKA Iron Fist, AKA actor Finn Jones.) Now, this might be a little wild, but bear with me here — this theory claims Alexandra is Iron Fist's mom.
It may sound a little far-fetched, but hear me out. We already know there's something weird going on with Danny's mom from Iron Fist. Yeah, she supposedly died when she fell out of that plane, but the monks never found the body. Iron Fist went out of its way to make sure viewers knew that crucial detail: no body. We also know that according to Madame Gao (played by actress Wai Ching Ho, who revives her role in The Defenders) supposedly converted Danny's mom over to the dark side before she "died." Gao said in Iron Fist that she recruited Heather Rand to join her ninja army, The Hand, because Gao wanted connections to Danny's father in order to infiltrate the family company.
Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver's Alexandra is an older evil woman working for The Hand and the Rand Corporation, who seems to be obsessed with Danny Rand. We know The Hand is all about those brainwashing/torture methods, so it seems possible Alexandra could have either forgotten she's Danny's mom or is just too evil to care at this point. If Star Wars can do it, so can Defenders!
Of course, there is one gapping hole in this theory: We already saw Danny's mom in Iron Fist, and no, she was not played by Sigourney Weaver. (She was played by actress Victoria Haynes.)
But like, we barely saw her! It would be the first time a TV show recast a role. And also, it's a comic book show, meaning there's all kinds of possible explanations for why Heather Rand's appearance might change.
