While we were all sad to see Rachel Lindsay's season of The Bachelorette come to a close, there's a new reason to get excited. Yes, Rachel got engaged to the man of her dreams, Bryan aka not-Eric. Not that I'm bitter; the two actually seem really happy together. I'm on to bigger and better things now.  If you're like me, you have been ridiculously eager to find out who the newest Bachelor will be. That's literally the only reason I go on social media anymore. In the words of Rachel Lindsay, the queen herself, "I'm living my best life." So, who is The Bachelor 2018? Drum roll please... it's Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Surprised? Us too. In case you didn't know, Luyendyk was a runner-up on Emily Maynard's season of The Bachelorette all the way back in 2012. Fans were really gunning for Peter Kraus to be the next Bachelor, but it looks like Peter really didn't think the Bachelor Nation life was for him anymore. That's no surprise, seeing as he didn't want to follow the typical flow of things when it came to his relationship with Rachel Lindsay, and that's ultimately why they broke up.

Good Morning America made the announcement on Thursday, Sept. 7. Luyendyk said in a statement to People,

This is pretty surreal. It doesn't really feel real yet, but I'm taking it step by step. The timing is just so perfect in my life. I could not be more excited for this journey I'm about to embark on.

Fans are... confused. But excited? But mostly confused and wondering where Peter is.

People have been anxiously awaiting this announcement since The Bachelorette finale. It wasn't announced then because no one had been chosen at that point. On July 26, before "Men Tell All," Chris Harrison told Entertainment Tonight,

Dean, Peter, Bryan, Eric. There's four great candidates right there. They'd all be great Bachelors, they would. I can't poke a hole in any of them, but in all seriousness, we've not picked a Bachelor. So, I can tell you, no Bachelor is chosen.

Now that we finally have our man, we have something to look forward to. Season 22 of The Bachelor will be wild — that's almost guaranteed. While it hasn't been revealed who the contestants are yet, I'm sure it's going to be a great bunch of women.
