Kim Kardashian has recalled the moment she found out about 9/11 in an emotional tribute posted on Instagram.

The mom uploaded a picture of Manhattan without the twin towers, but a reflection of them in the Hudson River, with the word "reflect."

She wrote,

15 years ago today I remember my dad calling me waking me up to tell me not to come into the office & told me what happened in NYC. We then had a family meeting at my moms & prayed. Life is so precious & I pray for everyone who was affected by this awful tragedy.

Kim was one of the countless celebrities who posted moving tributes online.

Reese Witherspoon said,

I could not sleep last night. I spent my sleepless moments watching a documentary about the families of first responders and people who were in the towers and on Flight 93. My heart was broken. Then and now. 15 years later, I will never forget those first responders and those families who are still dealing with the loss of loved ones. Prayers to you all.

Sarah Jessica Parker wrote a simple message to all the families, New Yorkers and others affected by the tragedy, saying "I recall and grieve with you."

Services were held across the world to mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11.

President Obama led a moment of silence at the White House at 8:46 am. The day before, he said,

We're still the America of heroes who ran into harm's way, of ordinary folks who took down the hijackers, of families who turned their pain into hope. We are still the America that looks out for one another, bound by our shared belief that I am my brother's keeper, I am my sister's keeper. In the face of terrorism, how we respond matters.
