Why The Hell Was Joan Rivers Left Out Of Oscars' 'In Memoriam' Segment?

by Adam Pliskin

At last night's Oscars, the "In Memoriam" segment honored fallen stars such as Robin Williams, Bob Hoskins and Lauren Bacall.

But, there were some notable absences from the touching montage.

Specifically, Joan Rivers was not included. During her life, Rivers appeared in a number of films and even wrote and directed one called "Rabbit Test" in 1978.

Rivers was also a mainstay at the Oscars as she would provide red carpet commentary. She was also left out of this year's Grammys "In Memoriam" segment in spite of winning a posthumous award.

Actress Elaine Stritch was also not included on the list. Richard Kiel, who played Jaws in the James Bond films "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Moonraker," was absent from the tribute as well.

It's unclear if these luminaries were not honored for particular reasons or if it was an oversight.

Either way, it's a pretty big screwup by the Academy.
