Coach Wins $257 Million In Internet Counterfeit Case

by Ally Batista

Counterfeiting of designer goods is no new practice, but since everything has been quickly moving to the Internet, this illegal practice has as well. The US legal system has been cracking down on this practice.

The handbag and accessories company, Coach, has just won one of the biggest Internet counterfeiting settlements in history. A federal judge in Illinois has awarded $257 million to the company. In addition to monetary damages being awarded, the courts are allowing the seizure and shut down of domain names that infringe on their products’ copyrights, which resulted in Coach shutting down 573 websites.

The practice of producing and purchasing counterfeit goods is detrimental to the fashion industry and should be stopped immediately. Don’t buy knock offs!
