Victoria’s Secret’s Controversy

The actual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has not even aired yet (it airs December 4th on CBS) and it’s already causing problems. Yes, they were commended for doing so much for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, but it seems as if it wasn’t enough.

It turns out that Karlie Kloss’ Native American inspired runway costume has caused quite the uproar. There’s no doubt about it that the feathered headdress and buckskin bikini were absolutely beautiful, but it also outraged the Native American community.

The costume was apart of the “Calendar Girls” segment of the fashion show, which featured a different model dressed for a different month of the year. Karlie Kloss’ Native American inspired costume was meant to represent Thanksgiving, thus sparking a debate about the misappropriation of Native American cultural attire.

Victoria’s Secret has seen retracted the ensemble from the show and the Native American communities have received apologies from both Victoria’s Secret and Karlie Kloss herself.
