Spotlight: Cape Coats

I’m always raving about how much I love fall/winter weather. I love layering and I love outerwear. I just feel like the more articles added to an outfit give you more of an opportunity to take a risk and to stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Who wants to look like everyone else? Not me, and you shouldn’t either. Never fear wearing something that no one else is. If others have a rude comment to make towards your style of dress, fantastic. That means they took the time to think twice about what you had on.

With this, I’m going to put the spotlight on an outerwear piece that will do exactly what I want, set me apart from the rest of the crowd and draw (appropriate) attention to myself. I’m talking about the cape coat. This style of outerwear was popular throughout the 50s-60s and I’ve always been partial to the cape coat’s unconventional style.

A cape coat is simply a coat sans arms. Typically, cape coats will have larger “slits”, if you will, in place of arms allowing you to move freely, while covering you up. I love this style of coat because it gives me an opportunity to wear long, elbow length gloves, which is another way to stand out. I’m on a roll aren’t I?

Would you consider adding a cape to your collection?
