Augusta National Golf Club Admits First Women Members

by Ally Batista

The Augusta National Golf Club, the exclusive and famous Georgia golf club that annually hosts the Masters Tournament, has just announced that they have admitted their first ever-female members. Who were the lucky ladies? U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore.

The Augusta National Golf Club has been exclusive to men, particularly those of importance in the industry and finance world, since it’s opening in 1932. The issue of admitting women has been frequently discussed but was intensified this past April. IBM was a head sponsor of the Masters tournament, which led to guaranteed club memberships for all IBM officers, except the company’s top executive, who was a woman. This announcement is a huge milestone for women’s rights activists.
