Anti-Circumcision Activists Against Oprah

That’s right. There’s an activist group against Oprah Winfrey. I know, we all thought that this was an impossible feat. After all, who could really be against Oprah? Well, anti-circumcision activists are. Yes, there are anti-circumcision activists as well.

So why is the Canadian Foreskin Awareness Project (CFAP) (also, what?), against the billionaire media mogul that is so well loved by, well, everyone? Apparently, Oprah has been endorsing a beauty product containing chemicals that come from human foreskin cells.

Yes, this does sound a bit displeasing, but why not add another shocking factor to this whole ordeal? Apparently, Oprah endorsed this product on her show from at least 9 years ago. It’s possible that she’s mentioned the product since then, but come on, 9 years ago?

The product in question is Skinmedica’s anti-aging TNS Recovery Complex, containing Tissue Nutrient Solution, which is derived from cells of the foreskin. On its website, Skinmedica describes their product as “Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media (TNS®) as a “physiologically balanced, naturally secreted and stabilized growth factor blend that helps improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and overall skin tone and texture.”

CFAP first went after Oprah in January 2013 when she made a public appearance in Vancouver, where the group is based. The group feels as if Oprah’s endorsement of the product is hypocritical of her opposition of female genital mutilation.

Here’s the kicker. The label of the product, and the website, doesn’t explicitly say the word “foreskin.” In 2010, the company intentionally stopped mentioning the word “foreskin” because “Initially, there was a misunderstanding and people thought we were actually grinding up the foreskin.”

The article also confirms that, at the time, the company’s supply of foreskin cells had been acquired over 20 years before.

These people need to find a more time consuming hobby.
