Women Are Getting Breast Cancer Younger

by Ally Batista

Breast cancer is not limited to one specific age group by any means whatsoever, but typically, older women are more accustomed to contracting the cancer, for whatever reason.

However, that’s not the case anymore. According to a new study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association stated that more women ages 25-39 are getting advanced breast cancer.

In 34 years, the number of advanced cases of breast cancer in younger women rose from 1.53 per 100,000 women in 1979 to 2.9 per 100,000 in 2009. This number may seem like a slight increase when looking at it on paper, but it’s still considered to be a “statistically significant” number, according to researchers.

In an even scarier supplement to this study, researchers are not really sure why there has been such an increase. Because of this, it’s imperative to make sure that you’re doing your self-breast exams often and making sure you’re making your regular doctor’s appointments.
