A Player Was Dropped From Real Madrid For Being 'Too Ugly'

This is Ángel Di María.

Di María is in his first season at Manchester United after spending four seasons with Real Madrid.

Despite winning European football's greatest competition, the UEFA Champions League, last year, Di María left Madrid because (some rumors say) he felt unappreciated compared to the bigger stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

But, that is apparently just one side of the story.

Here's what Carles Rexach, new sporting director for Madrid's blood rival FC Barcelona, told a Spanish newspaper (translated by Who Ate All The Pies):

(Real Madrid president) Florentino Perez looks at the world market and wants a team of Galacticos for everyone to admire. Do you understand what I mean? Ronaldo is the flagship of the club. Perez is selling an international brand. [People like] Vicente del Bosque and Di María are too ugly for Real Madrid. They are different from Toni Kroos and James Rodríguez.

Just for comparison's sake, this is James Rodríguez and Toni Kroos, the two players who signed with Madrid as Di María went out the door.
