Para-Athletes Show Up To Work Out, Surprise Everyone With Their Strength

by Adam Silvers

When we see people who are physically challenged, we often feel bad; we pity them, or we want to help them.

Recently, a group of para-athletes competing at the Rio Olympics in 2016 showed up to their respective training sessions in Brazil, and, as you might expect, people stared and appeared to wonder how they were possibly going to compete.

They were in for quite the shock.

Luciano Dantas benched more weight than the biggest person in the gym. Vinícius Rodrigues set a new treadmill record. And Lúcia Teixeira defeated every opponent brave enough to stand against her.

Yes, the three individuals in this video are athletes who dedicate themselves to train and compete to be the best, but that doesn't mean any average person with a physical limitation is incapable of achieving great things.

Like mom always said, "Never judge a book by its cover."
