Lamar Odom Reportedly Suffered Kidney Failure And Needs A Transplant

by Eitan Levine

Lamar Odom is far from out of the woods.

Doctors are beginning to assess the amount of damage done to the former NBA star after he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel earlier this month. The assessment does not look good.

Us Weekly reports a source close to the situation said Odom suffered major kidney failure during the event and will "definitely" need a kidney transplant.

Odom is currently on dialysis, and doctors reportedly won't know the extent of the damage until they run more tests.

Lamar's brain is reportedly the biggest concern; Odom has not yet been able to communicate through full sentences, only saying a few words since suffering multiple strokes at the Love Ranch brothel on October 13.

Like his kidneys, it is unknown exactly how much damage was done to his brain, and it probably won't be known for a while.

Of Odom, one source told Us Weekly,

He'll get more of his motor skills back gradually, but cognitively, he's not where he used to be.

Another source laid out the grim reality of Odom's situation, saying,

He's doing a tiny bit better, but he has a very long road back to full recovery -- if that.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, Lamar.
