Woman Donated $1 To Charity Every Time Someone Trolled Her On Twitter

by Taylor Ortega

If Susan Carland had a dollar for every time a troll shot her a hateful tweet, she would donate those dollars to UNICEF.

Carland donated over $1,000 in honor of haters bashing her for being a proud Muslim woman.

In a piece in The Sydney Morning Herald, the Australian scholar shared,

I regularly get tweets and Facebook messages from the brave freedom fighters behind determinedly anonymous accounts telling me that, as a Muslim woman, I love oppression, murder, war, and sexism… Their online abuse ranges from requests to leave Australia, hope for my death, insults about my appearance (with a special focus on my hijab), accusations that I am a stealth jihadist, and that I am planning to take over the nation, one halal meat pie at a time.

Carland used the outrage and epithets of her anonymous critics as fuel for her generous spirit.

Supporters joined in, and one even offered to match her donations.

Another took the burden off Carland for 50 tweets.

Carland told The Sydney Morning Herald her efforts didn't stop the hate from happening, but awareness was drawn to those in need.

Even if senseless evil can't be stopped, it's nice to know it can be repurposed into love.
