The grandkids who stood up the Internet's beloved “Sad Papaw” are redeeming themselves by throwing a massive, open house-style cookout for their ol' pops.
For the unfamiliar, the Internet fell in love with the old man known as “Papaw” last week when one of his grandchildren, Kelsey Harmon, posted a picture of him looking sad while eating a burger. Her caption revealed the grandfather had invited all six of his grandchildren to dinner, and even made them two burgers each — but only one, Kelsey, showed up.
After the Internet collectively expressed sympathy for the old man (and anger at the kids who stood him up), one of Papaw's grandchildren, Brock, is looking to make things right.
He recently tweeted information about a cookout the family is hosting on March 26, open to anyone and everyone from around the world.
JUST GOT DONE TALKING TO PAPAW AND HE WANTS TO INVITE EVERYONE OUT FOR A BURGER NEXT SATURDAY pic.twitter.com/HZppI3Rdws — Brock Harmon (@BHarmon_10) March 19, 2016
Though some feel the grandkids are "using" Papaw for fame, Brock told KVUE-TV News that is not the case. He explained,
We're a very family-oriented family. We communicate all the time. We want people to learn a lesson from this -- call your grandparents, tell them you love them, go eat with them.
That's a message I can get behind -- and, apparently, the Internet agrees.
