This Adorable Puppy Saved From A Fire Now Works With The Fire Department

by Kate Ryan

In April of 2014, one little pit bull puppy narrowly survived a house fire, thanks to firefighter Bill Lindler rescuing him.

When Lindler saw smoke coming from his neighbor's house, he, along with other firefighters, entered the home to find the pup cowering in a corner. Lindler told BuzzFeed,

He was pretty scared and he wasn't moving a whole lot. We think he was in the corner of the building for about 10 minutes before I got to him.

The scared little baby had crawled out from under a burning piece of the ceiling and suffered third degree burns to 75 percent of his body. Lindler performed mouth-to-snout resuscitation on the pup as they raced to the vet.

Now known as Jake, Lindler's family brought the puppy in after his neighbors said they couldn't afford the vet bills.

After staying at the vet's for six weeks under 24-hour surveillance, Jake was finally able to go home. Gradually, he recovered from his burns, and today, he works as a firefighter and the official Hanahan Fire Department mascot.

Also, he's definitely the cutest firefighter we've ever seen.

When he's not fighting fires, Jake visits local schools to educate kids about fire safety. In the future, he hopes to also be an arson-detecting dog to help fellow firefighters find flammable liquids once a fire has been extinguished.
