Is Demi Lovato Single? Star Opens Up About Relationship Status In New Interview

Demi Lovato is open and honest about so many areas of her life, but she does tend to keep anything about her romantic relationships to herself to maintain some shred of privacy. Makes sense. But yet, people seem to want to know: is Demi Lovato single?

She’s finally opening up about her relationship status and it might surprise you to find out why she’s not dating anyone right now.

Since her split with longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama in 2016, it sounds like Lovato needs a little time for herself before going all-in on a relationship again.

During an interview with ET to promote her YouTube documentary Simply Complicated, Lovato gave a little insight into why she’s single. The singer explained that she’s working on finding herself before moving into relationship territory, noting:

Yeah, I think I found her, and I think I'm still finding her. And that's why I'm not diving into anything with anyone. I value my time by myself now, and I value my time with my friends. And I just have learned to really appreciate my me time and getting to know myself and learning to fall in love with myself before I fall in love with anyone else.

How refreshing, right?

Lovato moved on from Valderrama to date MMA fighter Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos briefly, but they broke up in May. Nothing romantic has been reported for Lovato, though rumors swirled about her and Lauren Abedini after they were spotted holding hands at Disneyland last month. That public display opened up more questions about her sexuality, which she quickly shot down at the time, explaining why it was none of anyone’s damn business.

Lovato tweeted in response to a fan asking about her sexuality: “Just because I'm refuse to label myself for the sake of a headline doesn't mean I'm not going to stand up for what I believe in. If you're that curious about my sexuality, watch my documentary. But I don't owe anybody anything.”

She reiterated this point in an interview with PrideSource.com, where Lovato explained why there's such an interest in her sexuality:

I just feel like everyone's always looking for a headline and they always want their magazine or TV show or whatever to be the one to break what my sexuality is. I feel like it's irrelevant to what my music is all about. I stand up for the things that I believe in and the things that I'm passionate about, but I like to keep my personal life as private as possible when it comes to dating and sexuality and all that stuff just because it has nothing to do with my music. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone is trying to get that soundbite and I am purposefully not giving the soundbite. Watch my documentary.

Could Lovato and Valderrama get back together at some point? Lovato doesn’t rule it out, especially since the two are in each others’ lives, as documented in Lovato’s Instagram Story in June, where they posed together with the caption “Best of friends no matter what.”

Of a possible reconciliation, she noted, “You never know what's going to happen. I don't know what's going to happen.” So, she’s keeping her options open? Who knows.

Of course, with the buzz that Lovato’s song “Ruin the Friendship” is all about Nick Jonas, many fans are hoping that there will be some romantic sparks between the two longtime friends. Lovato has stayed mum (as well as she can anyway, given that everyone knows the lyrics are about Jonas), but she can’t put that out there without fans cheering for the possibility that she and Jonas will date at some point, right?

And speaking of Jonas, Lovato recently sat down with some pals to watch old footage of herself, including the moment in Camp Rock when she said she fell in love with Joe Jonas. It’s so sweet to see her reflect on their relationship... and the first kiss they shared in Camp Rock 2. Aww, memories.
