Coming up with the perfect gift to give your significant other after you've been dating for ages can definitely be a bit tricky, but figuring out gifts for someone you've been dating six months can feel even more difficult. You've been dating long enough that you should be able to demonstrate that you know what gets them going without breaking the bank. Although there's no shame in treating your new boo, buying them a diamond ring — if that's how you roll — could definitely come off as a bit much; Especially considering there are a ton of affordable gifts out there that would also be much appreciated.
And I mean, let's face it — purely speaking from a practical standpoint — the holidays are an expensive time. If your goal for this year is to finally prove to the fam that you are indeed adulting by getting everyone in your family a half-way decent gift paid for with your own money, then it may be a good idea avoid dropping too much on a new boo. A good thing to keep in mind if you're completely stumped is to opt for something that will present an opportunity for you to spend time together (i.e., an outing) or something that will remind them of you. Here are six thoughtful gifts that won't tear a hole in your pockets.
1. Coffee Club Subscription
If your new thang — like most people — is addicted to caffeine, why not help feed their addiction? A coffee club subscription is a great way to show that you know what they're into — not to mention, every month when their new coffee of the month arrives in the mail, they are sure to swoon thinking of you. The best part is that they have a few different types of subscriptions, so if you want to splurge on a 6-month subscription, go right ahead.
2. A Coupon Book
OK, OK, this is definitely what most seasoned gift-givers would consider to be an oldie but goodie. If you're on a tight budget but still want to show that special someone that you care, why not go for a homemade coupon book? But not that kind of coupon book, this special book can be made up of a ton of different coupons for them to cash in at their leisure — some naughty, some nice! Massages, sexual favors, breakfast in bed, the sky's the limit. The nice part about these is that you can tailor make the coupons for a bunch of different things you know they'll love.
3. Cocktail Set
Bar Cocktail Set, $39, Urban Outfitters | Mixology Book, $13, Amazon
Alcohol-themed gifts are sure to go over well with the aspiring mixologist, or even just for someone who loves to turn up. Anyone who calls themselves an adult should definitely have a bar kit lying around for a rainy day. If you're feel like splurging a bit, then throw in a bougie bottle of their favorite liquor and decorate some note cards with a few delectable drink recipes — you could also add a mixology book if you really want to impress.
4. Tickets To A Show
If you significant other is a music-lover, then they will surely appreciate a pair of concert tickets. Even if the show isn't for a month or two, investing in something that will be a shared memorable experience is never a bad idea. For some added oomph, why not make an evening of it and plan for dinner and drinks before?
5. A Book
Have you caught the feels for a bookworm? Perfect. There's no reason you shouldn't indulge their favorite pasttime. You may have to do some detective work to ensure that you don't get them something they've already read — unless of course, they have an all-time favorite book that's available in a collector's (or first) edition.
6. Portable Speakers
For the boo that loves to stay on top of the trends and take their tunes on the go, portable speakers are a classy gift that shows you are practical but still fun. Luckily, portable speakers are available in just about every price range so there's no need to go for the most expensive brand. Extra brownie points if you can make a special playlist with a mix of their favorite songs and some new stuff you think they'll like.
Figuring out gifts to get someone early on in a relationship can feel a bit daunting. Don't feel like you have too over-spend. Anyone whose interest in you is genuine won't be put off by a less than extravagant gift. That being said, it is important to put some thought and planning into the mix so they still feel like you care (procrastinators — I'm looking at you!).
