Roof Collapses And Sends College Kids Flying At A Wild Frat Party

by Emily Arata

Inevitable, alcohol-fueled consequences come with a collegiate holiday like “St. Fratty's Day."

That's certainly true for about 30 partiers at California Polytechnic State University. The party attendees managed to collapse a local garage structure by collectively piling onto its roof during a party this past Saturday.

Police arrived to rescue revelers -- who'd reportedly been drinking since the night before -- just before 6:30 am.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department confirmed at least eight people were seriously injured in the fall, including an unlucky partier whose morning ended in a piece of wood through the upper thigh.

According to the LA Times, all but one of the injured students, who reportedly received "mostly cuts and bruises," have since been released from treatment at the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.

St. Fratty's Day is reportedly a time-honored tradition at California Polytechnic State University. It's an attempt to avoid increased fines imposed on St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Thousands were in attendance, drinking the weekend away.

Climbing on the roof of a nearby garage turned out to be some students' worst idea.

Fire Chief Garret Olson told the LA Times the structure "clearly wasn't designed for people to be on top of it."

A witness even captured the collapsing roof on camera.
