by Sean Levinson

Los Angeles police were taken on a wild chase on Monday night when an armed man reportedly stole two cars and repeatedly drove into oncoming traffic.

The chase began at around 5:15 pm, according to The Los Angeles Times, when police received reports of a stolen car driving through downtown Los Angeles.

Helicopter footage shows the vehicle speeding through red lights and driving on the opposite side of the road before crashing into a car and spinning out at approximately 5:30 pm.

The man sprang out of his car and ran over to another driven by 22-year-old Elizabeth Yarahuan, who was stopped nearby.

She told KABC-TV Channel 7,

He just came up to me and pointed the gun at me and told me to get out of my car.

The car was taken on the westbound 105 Freeway and then the northbound 710 Freeway with at least eight LAPD cars in pursuit, according to the Los Angeles Times.

An exit off the eastbound 60 Freeway in Montebello was clogged with heavy traffic, prompting the suspect to exit the vehicle and try to steal yet another car.

The driver opened his door, but the alleged gunman fled at the sight of numerous police officers chasing him on foot.

As many as three officers fired multiple times and arrested the suspect after he fell to the ground.

According to police, he collided with at least six cars during the chase, but there have been no reports of injured drivers.

The Los Angeles Times reported the suspect to be alive at the hospital at around 10 pm last night.

He was being treated for numerous gunshot wounds, but his condition is unknown.
