Joe Biden Says Obama Wanted To Give Him Money When His Son Was Sick

Vice President Joe Biden said President Obama once offered financial support because Biden's son was dealing with health issues at the time.

Biden, 73, recalled Obama's proposal during an interview with CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger.

The president and vice president were apparently having one of their weekly lunches when Biden revealed his son, decorated veteran Beau Biden, considered giving up his position as Delaware's attorney general due to illness.

Joe Biden then told Obama he might have to sell his house in Wilmington, Delaware in order to keep his son's family afloat.

The vice president recalled Obama's response. He explained,

[Obama] got up and he said, 'Don't sell that house. Promise me you won't sell the house.' He said, 'I'll give you the money. Whatever you need, I'll give you the money. Don't, Joe -- promise me. Promise me.' I said, 'I don't think we're going to have to anyway.' He said, 'Promise me.'

Beau Biden ended up serving out his second term as attorney general after tests confirmed a stroke he had did not affect his cognitive ability.

After being diagnosed with brain cancer, Beau died in May of 2015 at the age of 46.

Obama delivered a eulogy at his funeral, further illustrating the unique bond between the president and his second-in-command.

Of Obama, Biden told CNN,

His love of family and my family, and my love of his family... it's personal. It's family.
