Member Of ISIS Reportedly Executed His Own Mother In Front Of Audience

by Sean Levinson

A member of the Islamic State reportedly executed his own mother in public after she was found guilty of apostasy.

According to Daily Mail, Ali Saqr used an assault rifle to kill his mother, said to be in her 40s, just outside the post office where she worked.

Hundreds of people apparently watched the execution, which occurred in Al-Raqqah, Syria, the Islamic State's headquarters.

Ali turned his mother in after she tried to persuade him to leave the militant group and flee the city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports.

The woman allegedly told her son the Islamic State "will kill all members of the organization."

It is unclear if Ali personally chose to execute his own mother or was given the task to test his loyalty to the group.

Ali, 20, is at least the second member of the Islamic State believed to have gotten his or her parent killed, according to The New York Times.

The father of a Lebanese militant reportedly went to Al-Raqqah last year to try to persuade his son to leave the group. Family members said the son reported his father's intentions to his superiors, resulting in the father's execution.
