These Are The Best Times To Book Flights Home For Thanksgiving And Christmas

by Oliver McAteer

I'd like to tell you and your wallet everything's going to be okay if you haven't already booked a flight home for Thanksgiving or Christmas yet.

I'd also like to tell you ISIS isn't real and tomorrow is National Free Chocolate Day.

But these are dark times we live in. Dark, expensive times. And it's getting more expensive as each day passes where airfare is concerned.

So here's what we're going to do. We're going to give you the ultimate guide to booking your flights home so you have a few spare dollars to buy your mom flowers at the airport, thanks to travel app Hopper.

Thanksgiving flights.

As you know, travel at this time of year is tear-inducing at the best of times. But the good news is prices won't vary that much throughout October.

Domestic Thanksgiving flights are looking around $323 for a round-trip at the moment.

Here's the catch: Wait to book until after Halloween and you'll get stung. Massively.

Prices will creep up by $1.50 per day. Leave it until the final ten days like an idiot and you can expect it to rise by $6 a day.

TL;DR: Book your flights before Halloween.

Christmas flights.

Xmas flights don't experience such a sudden surge in price at the very last minute. These dollars like to steadily creep up over time instead.

Right now you're looking at $304 for a round-trip -- and this is the best time to book. According to Hopper's historical data, the best time to book flights home for Xmas is 80 days before the big day. That's pretty much now.

Like Thanksgiving flights, these too will creep up by around $1.50 a day.

Hint: You'll save the most money if you're able to fly on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or New Year's Eve. The next best option is to fly Tuesday, December 20, and return Thursday, January 5.

TL;DR: BOOK RIGHT NOW.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
