Report: Truck Drives Into Crowd In Nice, France On Bastille Day

Update 7:21 PM ET: According to AP, Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi reported that the truck used in the attack "was loaded with arms and grenades."

The French police have stated that there is no known active hostage situation. The incident is being treated as an "attack." French police are working to clear the area before approaching the truck. The investigation is on going. 

Update 6:57 PM ET: Raw video footage shows a massive crowd running away from the truck in Nice just after the attack.

Nearly 60 people are reported to be dead. In addition, 100 people are said to have been injured as a result. The driver involved in the attack was shot dead while driving alongside the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront.

The French police have stated that an emergency operation is now in progress.

Update 6:47 PM ET: Raw video footage has surfaced of French police arriving at the scene of the attack after a truck rammed into a crowd of pedestrians in Nice, France as they observed a fireworks display in celebration of Bastille Day.

According to French officials, the situation is being handled as an attack rather than an accident.

Update 6:45 PM ET: According to Reuters, the driver in the truck attack was shot dead while driving alongside the famed Promenade des Anglais seafront. Approximately 60 people are reported to be dead. Nearly 100 people are said to be injured.

Update 6:42 PM ET: According to Reuters, a French ministry spokesmen revealed that there is no hostage situation in the Nice attack. The investigation is ongoing.

Update 6:33 PM ET: According to AP, French officials are labeling the incident in France as "an attack." NBC is also reporting that the French army has deployed onto the streets of Nice. The French government is urging citizens to stay in their homes, remain calm and, if possible, stay off the phone lines due to a communication overload following the incident. The situation is ongoing.

Update 6:31 PM ET: According to AP, a witness stated that there are "bodies everywhere," after the truck drove directly into a group of people in Nice as they watched fireworks to celebrate Bastille Day, a National Day in France.

According to NBC News, news broke in Nice, France, Thursday after a truck rammed into a group of pedestrians as people engaged in festivities to celebrate Bastille Day. The report states, according to Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi, there are dozens of deaths as a result of the incident.

In an interview over Twitter with NBC News, witness Andrew Botros revealed,

White truck literally racing through crowds of all ages. People either caught in path or forced to jump onto rocks over beach barrier. Some dead. Horrific.

The report also states that, at the time of the incident, pedestrians in the area had been watching a fireworks show.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi took to Twitter to report on the incident, the translation stating,

Dear Nice, the driver of a truck appears to have made dozens of deaths. Stay for the moment at your home. More info to come.
