Anton Yelchin, known for his role as Chekov in the new "Star Trek" movies, died after a fatal car accident that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to ABC News, Yelchin's publicist confirmed the tragic news, and Yelchin's family requests privacy at this time.

According to TMZ, friends sought Yelchin out after he didn't meet up with them as planned. The actor's friends reportedly found Yelchin pinned between a brick mailbox and his car. Police told TMZ they do not suspect any foul play.

This is a true tragedy for the 27-year-old rising star. The Russian-born actor first really broke into the mainstream in 2009 after starring in "Star Trek" and "Terminator Salvation."

He followed up those blockbuster performances with roles in "The Smurfs" movie, its sequel, as well as the "Star Trek" sequel and upcoming third "Star Trek" movie.

It now appears "Star Trek Beyond," currently in post-production, will be Yelchin's last movie. The film is due to be released on July 22.

Rest in peace, Anton Yelchin. This truly feels like it happened way too soon.
