Parents Of 13-Year-Old Who Got Teacher Pregnant Were 'Supportive And Excited'

She was 24 years old and he was 13.

She was an English teacher and he was her summer school student.

She reportedly had sex with him on a near-daily basis, and he eventually impregnated her.

When his parents found out, they were okay with it.

That's the short version of events that occurred between one Texas eighth grader and his teacher, Alexandria Vera, according to Houston-based outlet KHOU.

It all started when she met the boy during a summer school session.

At some point, Vera and the student began exchanging messages on Instagram. After the student started flirting and making inappropriate statements, the teacher told him to stop.

Eventually, though, she gave in. They kissed for the first time in her car and had sex for the first time in his home. After that, they would have sleepovers at her house. The sexual relationship lasted nine months.

According to the 24-year-old teacher, she was introduced to the eighth-grader's parents as his "girlfriend."

Vera also reportedly told authorities his parents would invite her to family gatherings, and they were "very supportive and excited" when they found out she was pregnant with the boy's child.

The pregnancy would not last long, however. After Child Protective Services showed up at Stovall Middle School to question Vera and the student, the woman had an abortion.

On June 1, following the abortion, she turned herself in to police.

On Wednesday, Vera agreed to a plea deal where she accepted a charge of aggravated sexual assault, KHOU reports.

The woman had originally been charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, which could yield a life sentence in Texas. But now that she's accepted a plea, her maximum sentence is 30 years in prison.

But her lawyer is hoping to avoid jail time altogether when Vera receives her sentence in January. According to the Houston Chronicle, defense attorney Ricardo Rodriguez said,

We're very much hoping for deferred adjudication.

KHOU reports the boy will remain in foster care until at least August 2017. His parents, meanwhile, have been ordered to attend therapy and parental classes.
