There Is A Petition To Take Away Iggy Azalea's Billboard Music Award

by Adam Pliskin

An online petition was started on Change.org to strip Iggy Azalea of her 2015 Billboard Music Award.

Azalea won the Top Rap Song award for her track "Fancy."

So far, over 17,000 people signed the petition.

The petition claims the song was released prior to the period of eligibility for the award.

Christian Ferguson is the person who started the petition.

On the petition's site, Ferguson wrote,

Iggy Azalea's 2015 Billboard Award for Best Song has been proven invalid. The eligibility time period for nominations is March 10th, 2014 through March 2015. 'Fancy' was released on February 17th, 2014, nearly a month before the eligibility starting. This is unfair to the other nominees in [this] category, especially to 'Anaconda' by Nicki Minaj, who most likely would've won. Billboard did not follow [its] own guidelines and should have to recalculate these nominations without 'Fancy' as a nominee.

According to Dick Clark Productions, the company behind the awards, Iggy's accolade is totally justified.

Apparently, the company determined song eligibility based on when Nielsen sales data and chart performance information became available and not when the song was actually released.

Although we'd love to see Iggy be punished for her terrible music, it doesn't seem like there will be any comeuppance in this regard.
