This Guy Is Actually Willing To Listen To 168 Hours Of Nickelback

by Adam Pliskin

Nickelback is widely considered to be one of the worst, most unlistenable bands in the world.

I'm sure there are some Nickelback fans out there because these guys keep on making records, but those are not the type of people I choose to spend my time with.

Simply put, Nickelback is the musical equivalent of hot, Chinatown garbage. And that's why what podcaster Jesse Carey is doing might put him in the running for sainthood.

Carey has forced himself to listen to Nickelback's entire musical catalogue for a whole week in order to raise money for charity.

That's 168 hours of ear-piercing, soul-crushing Canadian pop/rock. He's even playing the music as he attempts to sleep.

Carey is trying to raise funds for a group called Charity: Water. His goal was to raise $10,000 to build a well in a developing nation. Thus far, Carey has raised over $19,000 for the cause.

On his podcast, Carey mentioned the money raised might not be the only positive effect of his valiant efforts.

He said,

I want someone who's going through a hard time next week to be like, 'Huh, I'm really down and out, life's really got me down, but right now there's a guy who's been listening to Nickelback for days straight.'

It's been three days so far, and all that Nickelback seems to be taking a toll on Carey.

But, he continues to fight the good fight in the face of the greatest adversity one man has ever faced.

The Nickelback onslaught is wearing me down ... I now know why no other human has attempted such a feat — Jesse Carey (@jessecarey) February 17, 2015
Only two days in & I'm already feeling the effects of such huge quantities of Nickelback. We're in unexplored psychological territory here — Jesse Carey (@jessecarey) February 18, 2015
Night 3 of the Nickelback Challenge done. It's almost like half of the songs were written with the intention of preventing you from sleeping — Jesse Carey (@jessecarey) February 18, 2015
