5 Reasons A Girls' Trip Is The Perfect Way To Get Over A Breakup
Odds are, if you just got out of a long-term relationship, you've probably been a little mopey and feeling like sh*t.
You haven't done anything recently that requires a push-up bra, a blowout or those killer Steve Madden booties. Your secret ice cream stash and favorite PINK hoodie are probably getting a little more love than usual, but you aren't.
So there's no better time to treat yourself to a little trip and get your mojo back.
Get ready, forget Tinder and swipe right on a girls' vacay (and maybe that overly-priced BCBG dress you've been eyeing).
1. Nobody puts baby in the corner.
Breakups suck, we all know this. But they do not define you.
So you and your ex (we'll call him Mike) broke up. Mike is not worth sitting at home and throwing yourself a pity party; no one is. It's important to take some time for ourselves post-breakup, but it's even more important that we pick ourselves up and brush ourselves off.
What better way to learn more about yourself while getting back out there? You are a strong, independent woman with fabulous eyebrows. F*ck Mike. He had terrible eyebrows anyway.
2. It's an excuse for a getaway.
Who doesn't want or need a little vacay? Treat yourself and go somewhere you've never been before.
I'm not saying book a $5,000 trip to Bali and "Eat, Pray, Love" it (I'm not saying don't). Sometimes another state is as far as you need to go.
After my breakup, I took a 13-hour road trip to Nashville with one of my best friends, and let me tell you, this was one of the most fun, necessary and freeing experiences I've ever had.
We drank too much, ate too much, danced and laughed. Also, if you've never been to Nashville, the guys are beyond gorg. Mike who?!
3. Lose one thing, gain something better.
After losing a person close to you, a girls' trip can be a great way to get closer to someone else, preferably someone with whom you can share clothes and shoes.
Being in close quarters with anyone can be a little intimidating, so make sure you don't go with that girl you've been friends with for two weeks and know nothing about or that bitch who told you that you post too many photos of your cat -- you don't need that kind of negativity.
You'll sing along to the radio, experience new things together and have each other's back when that guy with the tramp stamp starts hitting on you. Plus, who knows? Maybe you just found your new travel partner!
4. Your photos will make him jealous.
OK, we've all been there. You want people, especially certain people named Mike or people who think you post too many photos of your cat, to see your trip.
While it's not the most mature thing to do, blasting your photos all over social media makes you feel damn good.
No more sitting at home on a Saturday night in your Target jammies. Break out that bodycon dress and show them what they're missing.
5. Post-trip vibes.
Nothing helps you get back on your feet like a girls' vacation and a few mimosas. Being able to take some time away with someone who has your best interests in mind is a blessing on its own.
You'll come back feeling refreshed, revamped and ready to move on to bigger and better things! Plus, you'll have some pretty great stories.
Whether you decide to go with a girls' vacay or just give yourself some time in a new place, it's all about the most important person in your life: you.
Treat yourself right, and remember who you are. If you're like me and a little unsure who that is, then add an extra day to your vacation and go find her.
