Sometimes a dog truly is "man's best friend".

In this case, Maya, a 2-year-old Japanese Akita Inu, spent over six days waiting for her owner outside a hospital in Elda, Spain.

Her owner, Sandra Iniesta, was hospitalized for an emergency surgery following appendicitis.

The 22-year-old wasn't surprised when her adorable companion waited for her patiently outside the exit of the hospital.

She told the Telegraph,

Whenever I go inside some place or another, she waits for me at the door.

The Akita Inu breed happens to be incredibly loyal.

Sandra's father, Andres, tried multiple times to take Maya home, but the pup was insistent.

How cute is that?

I don't know one person on the planet who wouldn't want a best friend like this dog.

The hospital staff took care of and checked on Maya while she waited. The dog has since received celebrity status for her loyalty.

I don't think my cockapoo would have the attention span to chill outside a hospital for a week while I recovered from surgery, but if I ever found myself in that situation, I'd hope my dog would miss me.
