Legendary public artist, Christo, famous for his Wrapped Reichstag now plans to build the world’s largest sculpture that is to be located in Abu Dhabi made entirely out of oil drums.

“The Mastaba” is a pyramid-like structure that will be made from painted and stacked oil barrels and will tower over the Gulf desert.

The structure will take 30 months to build and will be located 100 miles outside Abu Dhabi in Al Gharbia. However, The Mastaba is not a reference to the Egyptian pyramids- it gets its name from an ancient Arabic geometric form that was originally inspired by a resting bench for weary travellers making their way through the desert.

When completed, the structure will cost roughly $340 million and will be the world’s largest and most expensive permanent sculpture.
