5 Reasons Drinking Black Coffee Allows Me To Enjoy Caffeine Guilt-Free
A large black coffee is my usual order on any given day at any coffee place, and it's what I make for myself every morning.
The first sip instantly makes me more awake and energized, and a sense of well-being and happiness washes over me.
I feel better about everything in my life when clutching a piping hot cup of joe.
There's no cream or sugar; it's nothing but pure, black coffee.
It makes work better, and it made school more tolerable. It gives me an energy buzz great enough to accomplish any task, no matter how daunting.
It’s the thought of my Keurig pumping out a fresh cup that gets me out of my cozy bed at 5 in the morning.
I love coffee. It’s my little mug of happiness.
A study recently found people who drink black coffee (as well as other bitter foods, like radishes) are more likely to have psychopathic tendencies.
They're also more likely to be narcissistic and sadistic.
I'm sure everyone I meet in the near future will now see me as a raging lunatic because of my coffee choices, but I will continue to proudly slurp my coffee black and hot as hell.
Here are the reasons why:
1. It's better for you.
Coffee is packed with cancer-fighting antioxidants.
It helps your cognitive function, mood and memory.
It can also help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
But when you add cream and sugar, the calories and fat add up quick.
The sugar is bad for your teeth. The cream is bad for you in every aspect.
Black coffee is a way healthier choice, no matter how you look at it.
2. It's convenient.
Anyone can drink black coffee anywhere, anytime.
If I were to put cream in my coffee, I'd have to use dairy-free because of my slight lactose intolerance and general disgust toward dairy products.
If I used sugar, I'd prefer Sugar in the Raw because I'm a health freak, and I like raw sugar better than the processed and bleached crap.
Drinking black coffee is just easier and more low-maintenance than filling it with unnecessary flavor-dulling products.
3. It goes better with food.
If I drink a latte or other sweetened coffee beverage with any type of pastry, it becomes sweetness overload.
But pair a black coffee with a deliciously decadent scone or cake, and they balance each other out in a perfect yin and yang of delicious flavors.
4. I'm not ruining the flavor.
I may drink my coffee black, but I have endless flavor options.
I can try to a bold dark roast or a mellow blond roast.
I can experiment with caramel-flavored coffee or a plain and simple Donut House blend.
If I added other stuff to it, I wouldn't get the real taste of the actual coffee.
I drink coffee because I like the flavor, not a cup of sugar and cream with a little coffee thrown in as an afterthought.
5. It makes me look like a badass.
When I order my favorite drink, I just sound like a bad bitch ordering a black coffee.
I’m the only one of my friends to drink it black, and I like it that way.
It’s easy, uncomplicated and basic, unlike the rest of my life.
Once in a while, I’ll splurge on a caramel macchiato or a Java Chip Frappuccino, but nothing comes close to the simple satisfaction of that first sip of hot black coffee first thing in the morning.
And if it makes me a narcissistic, sadistic psychopath, I’m okay with that.
