You Can Now Turn Your Favorite Pictures Into Incredible Emoji Artwork

by Gillian Fuller

Emoji Mosaic takes the concept of “modern art” to an entirely new level.

The site, masterminded by New York Times Web developer Eric Andrew Lewis, allows users to upload their favorite photos and have them transformed into mosaics — using emoji as the medium.

The process is user-friendly and quite simple: Find a picture you love, save it to your computer (as a jpg) and then upload it to the site.

It'll take a few minutes for the software to transform your image, but when it's done, it'll look like a museum-ready mosaic, made out of thousands of tiny emoji.

Check out some famous works (and a few bonus pieces), emoji-fied, below.

"The Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh

"Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci

"The Persistence of Memory" by Salvador Dalí

"The Son of Man" by René Magritte

The Statue of Liberty
