Clash Of The Titans: TAG Heuer Vs. Breitling

by Leo Parker

There are rivalries that go back across the ages - Coke vs. Pepsi, Nike vs. Reebok, McDonalds vs. Burger King - but, in the world of luxury watches, there is another timeless rivalry.

Between two of the oldest Swiss watchmakers on the market, TAG Heuer and Breitling, who wins? Let's take a look at their credentials and assess the competition.

Breitling

Founded in 1884 in the Swiss region of Jura, Breitling was the brainchild of a certain Leon Breitling, who opened his own workshop and began crafting highly attractive and technical timepieces - qualities that are still well and truly upheld to this day.

The Breitling brand is a chief competitor of TAG Heuer, and they have been rivals for well over a century now. Fortunately, this rivalry has led to the production of some truly jaw-dropping timepieces, as they vie against one another to produce the best watches on the market.

Breitling has some pretty impressive brand ambassadors, with the likes of David Beckham lending his name to their illustrious and prestigious brand. The Swiss watchmaker is particularly well known for its sport-related timepieces and has an excellent array of nautical and aviation style timepieces, such as the Breitling Superocean and the Breitling Emergency.

Boasting an exceptional array of collections, Breitling offers one of the most diverse arrays of timepieces on the market and just some of their most painfully luxurious and stylish collections include Breitling for Bentley, Heritage, Superocean and Professional series of timepieces.

TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer, much like Breitling, has well over a century of watchmaking heritage and was founded in 1860 (which gives them the edge in the age stakes, if nothing else). They've certainly produced some impressive timepieces since Edouard Heuer created his first watch in his workshop in the Swiss town of St-Imier. Since that day, TAG has gone on to produce some utterly mesmerizing timepieces.

TAG Heuer boasts numerous claims to fame, such as being the first Swiss watch in space and creating the legendary Monaco timepiece worn by Steve McQueen in “Le Mans,” and they are undoubtedly one of the market leaders in the luxury watch sphere.
