Soap Opera Actress Apologizes For Criticizing Viola Davis' Emmy Speech

by Taylor Ortega

Nancy, hey. Hey, Nance, come here. Nancy, seriously, look at me.

HEY… MAKE SURE YOU MAKE VIOLA DAVIS' MOMENT ALL ABOUT YOU, OK?

Amid the cascade of praise on Twitter following Viola Davis' historic Outstanding Lead Actress win, one member of the television industry had a few words of criticism for the “How to Get Away with Murder” star.

That member was Nancy Lee Grahn.

I said, Nancy Lee Grahn.

What do you MEAN you don't know Nancy Lee Grahn?

Grahn is a daytime TV actress who was not trying "to diminish [Davis'] accomplishment” by gently assaulting Davis' accomplishment with words.

The soap actress began her rant with a nod to Shonda Rhimes.

Grahn followed it with a since-deleted tweet that read,

Im a f*cking actress for 40 yrs. None of us get respect or opportunity we deserve. Emmys not venue 4 racial opportunity. ALL women belittled

YOU HEAR THAT, VIOLA? The moment you become the first black woman to ever win the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy is NOT the time to celebrate being the first black woman to ever win the Outstanding Lead Actress Emmy.

Listen, Grahn likes Davis but just doesn't believe the recent winner faces any adversity as a woman of color in an industry dominated by successful white actresses.

Grahn mentioned she WISHES, as a white actress, she could get Davis' roles and didn't see how her statements reflected upon the issues Davis mentioned in her speech.

She's sorry, OK? Maybe she worded her tweet wrong.

It's just a fact all women deserve to be championed, even if it means stealing the spotlight from women who need to be championed more and deserve to be championed now.

People on Twitter were not pleased with Grahn's statements.

Grahn dealt with the criticism and, by the end of the evening, was not presented an award for her acting nor her ability to face consequences.

Oh, what's that? Everyone is still mad Grahn and her boundless privilege stole focus from Davis?

That's right, trolls. You can rage on, but Grahn is too classy to engage in Twitter rants... except, of course, for the rant that started this firestorm.
