16 Classic Movies That Would Make For Even Better Video Games

Plenty of video games have become movies, and -- as a general rule of thumb -- they're usually not too great.

"DOOM" -- based on the famous video game series -- didn't really do too well in the box office back in 2005, and that new movie "Pixels" (starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James) is up for a straight Razzie (an award given to the worst movies of the year).

Having said that, if the tables were turned, I feel as though the two markets would have much more success crossing over. I mean -- as a youngster -- I used to spend all of my time playing "Goldeneye," based on the James Bond film, on N64.

However, the older I got, the more I strayed from playing the types of video games that were based on movies -- in fact, I'm pretty sure they stopped making them. So, in response, I've taken the time to compile a list of good movies that I believe would make equally as enjoyable video games.

1. "Shawshank Redemption"

It's pretty evident that one of the greatest movies of all time would probably make one of the greatest video games of all time. Imagine a simulation in which your entire objective is to break out of a high-security state penitentiary.

2. "Pulp Fiction"

I'm pretty sure any movie written/directed by Quentin Tarantino would make for a killer video game. "Pulp Fiction" would be epic, especially if you were given the option to choose between Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield as your character.

3. "The Usual Suspects"

I could see "The Usual Suspects" being a sick video game -- especially if you got to control the whole “crew” and were prompted to carry out vigilante acts against the crooked system. Of course, this would all be leading up to the game's climax: uncovering Keyser Soze.

4. "Léon: The Professional"

"Léon" is one of the more underrated, and definitely badass, films of the early '90s. Because the plot revolves around a seasoned sniper and his protégé -- a 12-year-old Natalie Portman -- the plot of the game would certainly thrive under some first-person-shooter controls. I'd buy it.

5. "Memento"

Christopher Nolan is lauded for his avant-garde approach to screenwriting, which I'm sure would translate to the video-game world. Imagine if "Memento" was a video game...that you played backward.

Yeah, guess it might get confusing after a Rizla or two -- but so did the movie!

6. "Django Unchained"

"Django" would be a pretty sweet video game. I mean, just from a visual perspective alone; think about all the possible levels and scenes there would be. Not to mention how fun it would be to ride around in Dr. Schultz's tooth-mobile.

7. "Inglorious Basterds"

Keeping the Tarantino theme rolling, here, "Inglorious Basterds" would make for a pretty special video game experience too. Imagine getting points for every Nazi you take out using the Bear Jew. That's what I'm talkin' about.

8. "A Clockwork Orange"

Yeah, "Clockwork Orange" would certainly result in a weird video game. But, keep in mind, we're talking about VIDEO GAMES here -- it's OK to keep things a little, well, weird.

I'd definitely play a game where the main character drinks milk, wears a unitard and engages in a bit of the old ultra-violence. Why not?

9. "Taxi Driver"

I could see "Taxi Driver" being a fun video game to play. After all, driving a virtual cab does sound pretty fun. Especially when your character is a deranged war-veteran-turned-maniac played by Robert De Niro.

10. "Kill Bill(s)"

You guessed it: another Tarantino movie that would make a great video game. Realistically, the "Kill Bill" series contains all of the components necessary to make a great video game: martial arts, blood and Uma Thurman in spandex.

11. "The Martian"

"The Martian" would make a great video game because I feel as though the video game world is desperately lacking a more realistic outer-space simulation.

See, we have enough games out there with alien onslaughts and things of that nature, but not too many focusing around a human being stuck on Mars. I'm pretty sure I'd play it.

12. "Twelve Monkeys"

Now, "Twelve Monkeys" would be more in that sci-fi spaced-out thriller type of vein -- and it would be spectacular. The plot of the film is about a deadly virus that wipes out the better portion of humanity, leaving Bruce Willis on a quest to investigate the mysterious “Army of the 12 Monkeys.”

So, yeah, it would probably be a good video game.

13. "Catch Me If You Can"

For the "Catch Me If You Can" video game, you'd be able to play as Frank Abagnale and jet-set the globe leaving the FBI in your dust. Personally, I think this would be rad as each level could take place in a different part of the globe, whether it's in the sky, ocean or on foot.

14. "Taken"

In the "Taken" video game, you'd essentially play the part of Liam Neeson and spend the duration of the video game chasing down your daughter in France -- and taking out a bunch of foreign crooks in the process.

15. "True Romance"

I could see "True Romance" making a super iconic video game, especially during those scenes in which you'd get to drive that pink Mercedes around Los Angeles. I'd hope that in the video game version you could play as Alabama in addition to Clarence.

Actually, f*ck that, I'd hope that you could play as stoner Brad Pitt, too. Yeah, yeah, it's Tarantino.

16. "Natural Born Killers"

It's only right that this list ends with yet another Tarantino-penned film. I'm CONFIDENT that of all the great movies on here would make equally as awesome video games, but "Natural Born Killers" might result in the best.

I mean, the movie is mental. A romantic couple that doubles as a killing duo? I'd play.
