This Clue At The End Of 'The Defenders' May Give Us Answers About Daredevil

Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Marvel's The Defenders. So those of us who have no life finished all eight episodes of Marvel's The Defenders in one day. (And if you do have a life and didn't do that, maybe don't read this post — spoilers!) And of course, being Marvel, they just had to end things on a cliffhanger, meaning fans are left with one pressing question: Where's Matt at the end of The Defenders?

After Matt Murdock gets caught in an exploding building at the end of Defenders, everyone pretty much just assumed he died. But the very last scene of the show proves otherwise: Matt wakes up alive, in a strange bed in what looks to be a nunnery. "Get Maggie," says a nun when she sees Matt moving his fingers, "Tell her he's awake." Maggie?! Who is Maggie and why must she be gotten!?

Well, I won't pretend to be a Marvel comics expert, so correct me if I'm wrong but... I'm like 99 percent sure Maggie is going to be Maggie Murdock, AKA Matt Murdock's mom. In the comics, Margaret Murdock is a nun who goes by Sister Maggie. When Matt was just a baby, Maggie suffered from extreme postpartum depression and at a very low point, attempted to assault her baby. Horrified by her actions, she then exiled herself and was taken in by the church. She never reaches out to her family again, to protect them from herself.

Years later in the comics, Matt meets Maggie without realizing she is his mother, when the nunnery takes him after he almost dies in a fight with Wilson Fisk.

So this seems pretty spot on, right? Daredevil being nursed back to health in a nunnery and there's someone names Maggie there? That can't be a coincidence.

While there are not yet plans for a Defenders Season 2, there will be a third season of Daredevil, and filming will begin in October. It seems pretty likely that Daredevil Season 3 will pick up where Defenders left off, and feature Maggie Murdock as a character. We already know enough about Matt's dad — time for Matt's mom to take the spotlight.
