Kanye West Wants You To Know He's Just Like Will Ferrell In 'Elf'
God, Steve Jobs, Gru from "Despicable Me" -- these are just a few of the names we've heard Kanye West compare himself to over time.
Now, the 39-year-old star is sharing yet another odd comparison. This time, it's between himself and Buddy the elf from the Christmas movie "Elf."
While you might not immediately realize how similar Kanye West is to this deranged elf wreaking havoc on New York City, he certainly sees a lot of himself in Will Ferrell's character.
Kanye West sat down for a lengthy, slightly obscure interview with W Magazine to discuss when his obsession with fashion first started and how he's managed to make succeed in the fashion industry as a rapper.
He started off talking about how parallel his experience in the fashion world has been with Penelope's experience in "Wreck-It Ralph," saying,
Okay, so you know when Penelope puts together her car? And she's like, 'Made it myself,' and everybody that has professional cars, they say, 'Look at you with your little car and you're going to do this,' and then they break her car, right? That's basically the fashion world to me.
After babbling on about how severely misunderstood he is, Kanye then proceeded to voice how similar he is to Buddy the elf, stating,
Or, here's another one, another parallel, Elf.
The interviewer then asks, "Hmm, you are the elf who wants to find your father?"
Kanye replied,
No, I'm the elf that's Will Ferrell, that's too big for his hands to make the toys. But he wants to make the toys. Why? Not just so he could play with them, but he wants to bring joy to the world. I am a creator and it's my responsibility.
Hey, "Elf" is actually quite fitting for 'Ye!
The 39-year-old star then continued to elaborate on the true meaning of success and his goal to create a brand that "means something to people,"
Play this shit back in 10 years – I build things that mean things to people. I make the Christmas presents; number one requested Christmas present of 2015 Christmas, going into 2016, the fucking Yeezy.
Throughout the interview, Kanye made a significant point that he wants to do what many people think is impossible and create something that lasts forever.
Even though he's had his fair share of success in the fashion industry thus far with his Yeezy brand, it seems like Kanye's still experiencing a struggle within the community itself. He added,
I wouldn't say that anyone in fashion is on my side. I don't think there's anyone on my side.
Despite the fact that Kanye West clearly has the platform to launch a healthy, well-received brand, he hasn't been able to take his passion for fashion to the next level. Kanye went on to say,
They will not understand until after I'm gone. I am misunderstood and there is no one in fashion that's on my side. Because if that's the case, then take me and say, 'Here's your 80 people that work for you and here's a straight up, honest deal for it.' You don't have to sign your soul away in order to.
The man just wants an "honest deal" handed to him from the $1.2 trillion global industry so he can make toys for the world to enjoy -- just like Buddy the elf -- even though his hypothetical hands are too big.
Is that so much to ask for?!
