What It Means To Have A Dream About Starting A Family With Your Crush

by Candice Jalili

This week's dream is from 18-year-old Ariana who dreamed of marrying her crush and starting a family with him:

I dreamed about a friend of mine I've had some on-and-off interest in ever since I met him. And he seems to have some on-and-off interest in me, too. He's very charismatic, playful and humorous, and those just happen to be traits I find quite attractive. Still, nothing has really happened between us. We've teasingly talked about possibly getting into sexual situations, but I think that's mostly when he's slightly drunk.
Keeping all that in mind, the dream in a nutshell was about both of us being in some weird religion/church, and the church decided we should get married and have children. Neither of us was completely against the idea. So we got married, like, the day after, and he didn't hesitate to have sex with me. It was quite intense, and afterward, I remember there was still a lot of sexual tension between us, as if we couldn't wait to jump at each other. I ended up pregnant from that sexual encounter and had a boy and a girl. That's about it  because, then, the dream took a weird twist to 'The Lion King.'

Here's Lauri's interpretation:

One of the many purposes our dreams serve is the purpose of dress rehearsal. They allow us to safely, in our heads, explore a real-life scenario (well, somewhat real-life), so we can better prepare for or, in your case, better decide if it is right for us.
One of the many purposes our dreams serve is the purpose of dress rehearsal.
The weird church/religion in your dream is actually your deeper mind's view of your relationship: It's been kind of weird in that you two have religiously had this on-and-off attraction and never did anything about it. So this part of you is saying go for it!
The marriage is really you finally 'committing' to taking the next step with him. The intense sex is your hope that all these years of sexual tension will pay off, and the pregnancy and children are your hopes that this will be a relationship that will grow, develop and have a future.
The intense sex is your hope that all these years of sexual tension will pay off.
I would love to have known the details of 'The Lion King' ending to this dream because, as random as the twists and turns in our dreams seem, they ALWAYS have meaning. In 'The Lion King,' Simba has to fight for his birthright as king, so perhaps you feel that a relationship with this guy is destined. But that's just me speculating with zero details of that part of your dream, so take this part of my analysis with a grain of salt! All in all, however, it seems you would be completely OK with your friendship going to the next level. Problem is, neither one of you is doing anything about it.
So take the next step already. If you don't, how will you ever know?
Take the next step already. If you don't, how will you ever know?

Remember that John Mayer song "Dreaming with a Broken Heart"? Well, in case you missed one of the greatest songs of all time, our boy John sings, "When you're dreaming with a broken heart, waking up is the hardest part."

Even though Ariana's not necessarily heartbroken, her whole situation kind of reminds me of the song.

I mean, can you imagine how hard it must have been waking up from her dream of being married to her crush (and making babies with him via lots and lots of hot sex) just to go back to this awkward sexual tension-packed friendship? Sounds pretty dang hard, if you ask me.

I liked Lauri's interpretation of this one a lot. I like the idea that your brain's trying to help you out with a dress rehearsal of sorts. And it seems like Ariana's dress rehearsal went pretty well, so I say GO FOR IT.

I hope this was helpful to Ariana and anyone else who had a similar dream.
