7 Things You'll Feel When You're Falling In Love With The Right Someone

by Anjali Sareen Nowakowski

Falling in love with the person that is your perfect fit is one of the best feelings in the world.

Although it's not uncommon to find yourself falling in love (or simply, lust) with the wrong person before getting to Mr. Right, when you finally meet the guy for you, you'll realize it was worth the wait.

Everything you thought you knew about love and relationships will suddenly be turned on its head. And it's not just love you'll feel - you'll go through a whole host of other positive emotions.

Here are some of the things you can expect to feel when you start falling for the right someone.

1. You'll Feel Surprised

When I met my husband, the primary emotion I remember feeling was shock. It sounds nuts, but I truly couldn't believe he even existed.

I had spent so much time before not even sure if I wanted to be in a relationship. I didn't really believe that true love was real, and I definitely didn't think I'd ever feel so strongly about someone that I wanted to be with forever.

Falling in love with the right person will leave you feeling surprised, like you didn't see it coming. You'll marvel at the fact that someone so perfect for you even exists - let alone loves as much as they do, too.

2. You'll Feel Safe

Though I believe we're all responsible for our own emotional well-being, I never knew what it meant to really feel safe with someone until I met my husband.

In prior relationships, I would purposely not express how I was feeling most of the time, for fear of being judged or ridiculed. It could be the biggest thing, like disappointment over a friend moving, to the smallest, like moodiness from PMS. It didn't matter - if it was a real feeling, I kept it to myself.

With my husband, however, I want to do the exact opposite: share everything with him.

When you're with the right someone, you'll know because you'll feel safer than you ever have in the past.

3. You'll Feel Constantly Happy

This one may seem like a no-brainer, but it's still important to remember.

In relationships before my husband, I knew what it was like to feel momentarily excited (or even happy) for a little bit. Despite that, I still didn't know what it meant to have a joyful, happy feeling all the time, almost at every single second. The type of happy I feel isn't based on the ups and downs of the rest of the world, but instead, is based on knowing I've found a great partner for life.

Notice how you're feeling when you're actually falling in love. If you feel an underlying happiness no matter what is going on around you, you'll know it's right.

4. You'll Feel More Mature

Since I was never a big fan of commitment, I also wasn't a big fan of trying to make things work in committed relationships.

I don't want to say I was petty... but I was a little petty. I used to stonewall, not listen in serious discussions, and generally do anything I could to find my way out.

With my husband, I'm patient, present, and I love to talk to him. It's like I've found a newfound sense of maturity that I really didn't have before. I feel capable of developing myself as a sensible grown-up.

If you're falling in love with the right person, you'll feel it in the way you open up and respond to them.

5. You'll Feel Valued

My husband makes me feel like I'm the best thing that's ever happened to him.

Although sometimes I may call him out for his adorable cheesiness (as it is both adorable and cheesy), not a day goes by that he doesn't remind me that he values me more than he can say. Whether it's actually telling me in words, or whether it's by him doing nice things for me and our little family of four-legged fur-babies, my husband takes every opportunity he can to express how much he cherishes me.

That right someone will constantly let you know how special you are to them, and how easy it was for them to fall in love with you, too.

6. You'll Feel Free

I used to be one of those people that saw relationships as totally constricting. I would think that getting in a relationship meant saying good-bye to my personal freedom. I realize now, though, that I just wasn't in the right relationship.

With my husband, I don't feel constrained - in fact, I feel more free than I've ever felt before. Since I know my husband is by my side no matter what, I feel free to explore the world in whatever ways I want. It's nice to know I'll always have a person to call home, regardless of what I want to do, see, or be.

In the right relationship, the love will feel like it lifts you up, helping you to experience more out of life.

7. You'll Feel Full Of Hope

When you fall in love with the right someone, more than anything, you'll feel hopeful about the future.

Before I met my husband, as soon as I got into a relationship, I'd start counting down the days to when I thought it would end. It wasn't necessarily fatalistic, but was more that I hated relationships and wanted to escape the second I was in them. Now, I look forward to the future in my marriage, no matter what it may bring, because I know I've chosen the right partner.

It's a unique sense of joy and hope you'll only feel when you're falling in love with that special someone.

Enjoy it - it's one of the best feelings in the entire world.
