Rihanna And Taylor Swift: Not Good For Print Business

Rihanna and Taylor Swift are no doubt major celebrities with crazy success in the music industry, but it seems as if that’s as far as their success will go. When it comes to covering magazines, editors should probably ignore these two.

In 2012, both starlets were duds as newsstand covers. Taylor Swift covered five magazines (Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle), and failed to perform. Her issues sold either slightly above or slightly below average, with the exception of Cosmopolitan. That issue, was the magazine’s worst selling all year.

This isn’t a first time occurrence either: in 2010 and 2011, she was a consistent worst-seller.

Rihanna can be considered just as harmful to the print business. Her Vogue November issue sold 32 percent below the six-month average, making it the magazine’s second-worst selling issue all year.

Hmm, could their personal lives be somewhat to blame? Who wants to read an interview with a train wreck? Not me.
