6 Reasons To Be Thankful For Your Wild And Wavy Hair

by Anonymous

We all either have straight, curly or in-between hair. Each comes with it's own set of advantages and disadvantages, but for straight and curly hair, the struggle can be real.

Curly hair often deals with lots of care and frizz, among other things, while straight hair usually struggles with volume. Most of the time we don't like the hair we have, probably because we deal with it everyday and get annoyed with it. This makes us think that the grass might be greener on the other side.

A lot of articles talk about what it's like to have straight or curly hair, and many tutorials are aimed at how to work with those hairstyles. Hair products seem to always talk about taming curls, or adding volume to flat hair.

But what about wavy hair? Not many want to talk about our struggles or perks. Sometimes I want to look up things to do with my hair, or even try to better understand my hair (because I never really do anything with it), but I find nothing, or very little to work with.

What I did find, however, were a bunch of articles on the struggles of naturally straight or naturally curly hair, and this actually helped me realize how happy and comfortable I am with my wavy hair. Sure, I like straighten and curl my hair from time to time, and they're both beautiful hairstyles on any woman, but not many people talk about how awesome it is to have wavy hair.

To my curly and straight haired girls: Yes, your hair is beautiful, but we should also take the time to appreciate and love wavy hair, too.

Here are reasons to be glad you have wavy hair, and to go out and rock it proudly.

1. Best of both worlds.

While straight hair struggles with lack of volume, and curly hair struggles with trying to tame the frizz or care for curls, wavy hair gets the best of both worlds. Bounce, little volume and not too much need for care. Total win.

2. Easy to switch between styles.

Wavy hair is incredibly easy to style into straight or curly. Because its not too stubborn, it will easily hold styles. You don't have to dedicate hours to tame and straighten curly hair, or have curls falls back into naturally straight hair within hours.

3. You can hold off on washing.

This is a little confession about us gals with wavy hair. Wavy hair typically gets wavier and prettier when it's a little dirtier (sounds bad, but trust me, it isn't).

When the natural oils of the scalp moisturize the strands, the waves are more defined and look sleek. You wake up to see fabulous hair that doesn't need anything done to it, and those are truly good hair days.

4. Hair products actually work.

Hair products seem to work the best with wavy hair types. For that same reason, it's easy to style. Wavy hair seems to absorb the products well, too, so it only requires a little product to go a long way. You don't have to buy and use large amounts of products, or use them every day in order for them to do their job well.

5. Effortless beach waves.

All those tutorials that both curly and straight haired girls try to achieve are a breeze for wavy hair gals. A little hair product, twist, hold to dry and voila! Naturally beautiful waves.

Sometimes when you don't wash your hair for a few days, you'll see you have naturally developed beach waves, and they make you feel as fabulous as Beyoncé.

6. You can rock it at any length.

Short, medium, or long, wavy hair will always look fabulous, and can be experimented with more easily than the other hair types.

Short and curly doesn't isn't always the best look, and sometimes long, naturally straight hair has even more of a struggle with volume. But whether short, medium or long, you can wear your wavy hair with little effort, and look fabulous while doing it.
