Marie Antoinette Shoes Auction for $80K

by Ally Batista

Earlier in the week the Paris Drouot auction house had a bit of a momentous occasion. A pair of green, pink striped kitten heel slippers, which once belonged to Marie Antoinette, were auctioned off for $81,275.

The French Queen’s footwear (which were reportedly given to her in 1775 by Alexandre-Bernard Ju-Des-Rets, a member of her court) were auctioned off as a part of the auction house’s “Historic Memories of Royal Families” sale and were only expected to retail at $13,000, max.

An anonymous telephone bidder, who is without question a huge Marie Antoinette fan, purchased the shoes. I wonder what the anonymous bidder will do with them?
