Last Tuesday, UN Special Envoy Angelina Jolie spoke out about rape during wartime at the opening of the Summit Fringe at the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict.

She urged viewers to treat rape and sexual violence as an international problem and something we are all responsible for.

[Rape] has nothing to do with sex, everything to do with power. It is done to torture and humiliate innocent people and often very young children.

She compares conditions in America to conditions in third world countries, saying how the USA has doctors, police officers and institutions that protect citizens, whereas other countries don't have nearly as much hope for justice.

The subject of sexual violence in war zones has been taboo for much too long, and it's time to make justice the norm.

It's time to bring the people and the government together from all countries to attack the problem and end sexual violence as a weapon of war, once and for all.
