5 Life Hacks For Staying Fit During The Dreary Winter Months

by Alyx Green

There's literally nothing worse than waking up in the morning to a dark, bitter day, going to work and coming home to another dark, dreary night.

The only thing I'm motivated to do is curl up in a fleece blanket, eat pasta and watch "SVU" reruns.

It's okay to kick back and be cold and lazy once in a while.

But you worked so hard over the past few months; are you willing to give that up? You should want the summer bod all year long!

Staying active during the winter will help prevent you from getting that nasty cold, keep you energized and ensure you look hot AF in leather leggings at the bar.

Are you intrigued yet?

Here are a few ways you can stay fit, even when it's cold AF outside:

Bring your gym clothes to work

You will literally have no excuse.

You know that if you go home, you won't want to step back outside into the cold abyss.

Pack your belongings and get your butt to a spin class.

Once you get into a routine of going straight to the gym, you'll be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner.

Have soup.

Soups don't have to be creamy and heavy to be tasty.

My favorite thing to do in the winter is heat up a pot of chicken broth and throw in as many veggies as I can think of (string beans, chick peas, spinach, bok choy, to name a few).

Make a large batch of soup for the week and heat it up at work. Not only is it convenient, it's warm, healthy, filling and delicious.

Am I missing anything?

Watch workout videos.

Okay, fine. You listened to me and brought your gym clothes to work, but let's be serious. There's a blizzard outside, and the gym is not happening.

You're not off the hook yet, though.

There are so many awesome YouTube videos that you can watch and get a kick-ass workout from. So put on your best 80s workout gear and get to squatting.

Make workplace your healthy place.

We spend most of our day in an office, so why not take advantage of it?

Since you may not be making the trek to the gym today because ugh, SNOW, make your workplace your bitch.

Take a break every once and a while and take a walk around the office, stand at your desk while you make a few calls, or sit on a yoga ball instead of a desk chair.

If you work a few floors up, try taking the stairs instead of the elevator, swap your soda for a water bottle and pack snacks ahead of time, so you have no excuse to run to the vending machine.

Eat healthy now so when you're at holiday gatherings, it will really be a treat.

Get a group together.

The more the merrier; get a group of friends hooked on a winter workout regimen.

You can motivate each other to get your asses to the gym so you have no choice but to go. Later on, celebrate your rockin' bods on a weekend beach getaway when summer hits again.

Plus, you'll be in beach shape and everyone else will just be starting. If that's not winning, I don't know what is.

Staying fit during the winter is the best thing you can do for yourself. It's mind over matter, ladies (and gents).

The more you put off the inevitable, the harder it will be to start. Plus, don't you want to get cute winter workout gear?

Happy crunching!
