Kombucha can be spotted lining the refrigerated shelves of health food and supermarket stores alike, and it's for good reason.

This fermented tea has a multitude of health benefits that keep your bod running perfectly and help your immune system stay in check.

Recent studies have even discovered it helps with weight-loss goals and cardiovascular disease reduction, which is pretty amazing.

The more research we do, the more we realize our daily bottles of kombucha might just be one of our best fitness friends.

Here are five reasons you should add kombucha to your wellness routine:

1. Boost weight loss.

Kombucha is made from fermenting green or black tea, which means you get the perks of a cuppa and fermented foods. Double win!

One study found that green tea has thermogenic properties (increasing your body's internal temp) beyond that of just the caffeine. This means properties of green tea increase your metabolism and help burn more fat.

2. Help your ticker.

Sipping on a glass of kombucha keeps your heart happy.

Researchers disocovered a natural antioxidant compound in green tea drinks called catechins, which can help reduce your risk for heart disease and obesity.

It turns out that daily intake of tea drinks reduces LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, decreases BMI and lowers overall body weight, all of which are risk factors for heart disease.

And remember, exercise helps with these, too.

3. Stabilize blood glucose levels.

Spikes in blood glucose levels can leave you irritable and hungry for another quick fix snack.

Keeping these levels in check is important for reaching your fitness goals.

A 2013 study found green tea drinkers had reduced glucose and insulin levels. Goodbye munchies!

4. Keep colds at bay.

We're smack dab in the middle of cold and flu season. Coming down with the sniffles can cause you to miss out on scheduled workouts and push back your fitness goals.

Researchers found kombucha has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.

Sipping on kombucha regularly could help boost your body's defenses and keep you cold-free.

5. It can replace other unhealthy drinks.

We love kombucha for more than just its health benefits. We sip it on the daily as a healthy alternative to soda or wine.

If you want to celebrate minus the vino, swap in kombucha! Kombucha contains slight amounts of alcohol (usually no more than .5 percent).

Just pour it in a champagne glass, and you'll feel like you're sipping on some bubbly.

You can get kombucha in any type of fruity flavor besides the original and ginger flavor. Experiment with different brands and flavors to find the one you love!

Some tried-and-true brands we're into are GT Dave's, Health-Ade, Clearly Kombucha and The Bu.

Just make sure you look out for the sugar content. It should be around 5 grams or less.

Drink up, buttercup!
